The day and a half trips are still getting into some great action out of San Diego. The Yellowfin Tuna are still biting and the kelps are still holding plenty of Yellowtail and Dorado. We kicked off our SFR Charter aboard Bill Cavanaugh's beautiful Pacific Queen out of Fisherman's Landing in San Diego.
We had a light load charter with high hopes of Yellowfin Tuna as the bite has been pretty steady approximately a hundred miles down the coast. Most of the boats were hugging the coast due to the weather being up, however that brought most of the fleet straight to the hot bite. Owner and operator Captain Bill Cavanaugh had some time off however his fantastic Crew took great care of us. As a rule of thumb, you can measure the success of a great business owner/manager when the business runs smoothly while they are not present. The Crew of the Pacific Queen didn't skip a beat! These guys really provided us with exceptional service and we all had a great experience. Bill, you've done well with this team!
It wouldn't be an SFR Charter without a raffle so while baiting up we raffled off some gifts from Catchy Tackle, Seaguar and Fishworks. The tuna bite started out a little slow in the morning but the kelp patties that were far and few in between were loaded with fish. As the day progressed, we had several fish on the troll and during the afternoon we couldn't troll more than twenty yards without being picked up by Skipjack. Although the entire fleet had a tough weekend picking up Yellowfin, we managed to put together a great trip with an awesome group of anglers. I'm really looking forward to my next trip on the Pacific Queen. This vessel provides all the amenities necessary to make unforgettable memories out on the water and the "Long Range" style meals prepared by Chef Paul make the Pacific Queen's galley one of the finest diners you'll find on this planet! If you're looking for a very comfortable sportboat with plenty of room at the rail, make sure you give them a try!
