Our Story

San Diego Fish Reports is part of the Sportfishing Report network, originally founded in 2000 as the premier source for fish counts. Our journey began with a focus on San Diego County, rapidly becoming the go-to resource for charter boat fish counts in San Diego and Oceanside.

Our founder, Chad Woods, grew up in Ventura County and has been passionate about fishing since his first tuna trip aboard the Prowler after college. Chad attended Crespi High School in Encino, CA, before earning a finance degree from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University (SMU). His love for fishing and programming led to the creation of San Diego Fish Reports, a platform designed to connect anglers with real-time, reliable fishing information.

Over the years, Chad has enjoyed countless fishing trips, from the Coronado Islands to offshore tuna expeditions, and long-range adventures aboard legendary vessels like the Excel, Independence, Intrepid, and Royal Polaris. His vision and passion laid the foundation for what San Diego Fish Reports is today.

Our Mission

In 2015, we launched San Diego Fish Reports as a standalone regional platform dedicated solely to the vibrant fishing community of San Diego County and the renowned San Diego Long-Range Fleet. Our mission is to provide timely and accurate updates from key landings like:
