Park hours: 6:00 A.M. – 7:30 P.M. Open seven days a week.
Dock closes: 7:00 P.M.
Last Plant: 3,000 lbs of Channel Catfish Wednesday July 1st.
Next Plant: 1,000 lbs. of Channel Catfish Friday July 31st.
Water temperature: At surface 71.24 f., 8.44 D.O. @ 10’ 70.54 f., 5.16 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Besides being Independence Day, today is a free fishing day in the state of California and no license is required on this date. Please take note a lake permit is still required if you want to fish.
Wednesday’s catfish plant went well and limits and near limits were being taken throughout the lake on both Thursday and Friday. Excellent fishing conditions are expected over the weekend and into next week. Cut mackerel and chicken liver are the top baits for catfish. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that is excellent for catfish. The Wohlford Catfish Derby will not be held this year due to scheduling difficulties. Look for the derby to return next year.
The bass bite has been sluggish with small to medium sized bass being reported. The bass can be found near structure and respond best to crawdads, shad raps, or dark colored plastics.
Crappie can be found in the early morning. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught on crappie jigs or live golden shiners. Blugill have been frequenting the coves as well.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
