CATFISH
Anglers reeled in catfish from Half Moon Cove and the T-dock. Catfish are hitting on mackerel, chicken liver, and inflated night crawlers.
TROUT
Trout Opener is less than two weeks away! The Bait and Tackle Shop is stocked with PowerBait, Hookup Baits handcrafted jigs, and other trout season essentials.
This year trout will be coming from Wrights Rainbows in Idaho. Stockings will be weekly or biweekly throughout the season to reach a total of 20,300 lbs. The stocking schedule is posted on our website.
Trout Opener is November 19th. 1,700 lbs. of Rainbow Trout will be stocked for this event. Boats will be available on a first come, first served basis. Fishing permits and boat launches may be pre-purchased at the campground kiosk Nov. 14th-18th. ** Please note, the lake will be closed on Friday, November 18th.
CATCHES OF THE WEEK
Larry, one of our great volunteers, caught this Redear from the T-dock on Saturday. He also reeled in a blue catfish.
TROUT FISHING TIPS
One of the tried and true methods of fishing for trout at Lake Jennings is trolling. Trolling is when a lure is cast behind the boat (approximately 75-100 feet) while the boat moves at a very low speed. The rod should be at 90 degree to the boat and line.
If you catch a fish, make a pass through the same spot again as there is likely more fish there. Change to another lure or color if you did not have success the first pass around the lake. Our favorite setup is a snap swivel tied to 4-6 lb. test line with either a firetiger Rapala, gold or silver Kastmaster, or a brown Roostertail. Hookup Baits jigs can also be used for trolling.
If you have any questions about trolling for trout (and bass!) or would like to know about other methods, please ask a Ranger at the Bait and Tackle Shop.
