Crappie are the fish to catch. We had people coming from Los Angles to get in on the fun; that’s how good it is. we also started seeing some nice cats come in weighing in at the 20 pound range. The blue channel cats like to bit in the winter months and one guy who wants to remain anonymous said he caught some big cats but only took a couple of the smaller 20 pound. A couple of years ago we had out lake record caught weighing in just over 102 pounds that fish was released.

Lower Otay ReservoirThere was a tournament at the Lake on Saturday and all but two teams had limits. The winning limit was over 16 pounds. Bass fishing is setting up to be on of the best years with the bass having a lot of structure to hide in. The lake level is up and so are the crappie counts. Lower Otay ReservoirThe lake level is up and so are the crappie counts. The word is getting out the crappie are biting. You will want to use suspending crappie jigs to have the best results. Small shiners are also working. Bass fishermen are having some luck as well. It looks like the bass are being caught at the edges of the tulles.
