The catfish have been biting on shrimp and meal-worms this week. Popular spots include the southwest corner of Lake 3 and the east shore of Lake 4 across from the island. The bass are biting on a mix of topwater baits and soft plastics. Popular spots include the east shore of Lake 3 and the southeast corner of Lake 1. The bluegill continue to bite on nightcrawlers and red-worms. Popular spots include the south shore of Lake 2 and the east shore of Lake 5. Our next scheduled stock will take place on Friday, August 6 . A portion of the Lakes will be closed in order to give the fish time to acclimate. Be sure to join us on Thursday, August 5 from 5 PM to 11:30 PM for our next Summer Night Fishing event! No California State License needed, just a Santee Lakes daily permit. Lanterns are required, radios will not be permitted, pets are not permitted, and please be sure to pick up your trash at the end of the event!
Save Our Lakes
Recently at Santee Lakes we have noticed an increase in the amount of discarded fishing line scattered throughout the park. The picture above is what was collected over a span of two hours across four out of the seven lakes that many species call home. We can all do our part to be sure that the wildlife we enjoy around our lakes do not have to suffer from our carelessness. Fishing line is such a danger to wildlife, we should never discard it on the ground. If you see any left by others, please pick it up. Three new line receptacles have been installed throughout the Lakes to give guests more opportunities to properly dispose of fishing line.
