  • Stocking: The lake was stocked with 2,000 pounds of trout from Wright's Rainbows last week. The next stocking of 1,500 pounds is the week of December 27th bringing the total up to 7,000 pounds so far this season. Ten percent of the stock is 3+ pounds.   • What's the catch? With 2,000 pounds of trout in the lake, it seemed that most anglers caught something if not their limit this weekend. Trout limits are 5 per licensed angler as stated in the CFW Sportfishing Regulations. The hot spots for trout were the shallow coves around the lake, Hermit, Siesta, Half Moon, etc. They were biting on 'crawlers, powerbait in chartreuse/yellow varieties and brown/gold HookUp baits. No reports of catfish bite this weekend, but they are out there! Wherever the trout are schooling look for bass to be nearby. Don't forget to send us pics of your catch!   • Winter Break: The lake will be open DAILY from December 17 - January 2 for winter break. Weekend (Friday thru Sunday) hours will remain the same 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday thru Thursday the lake will be open for fishing and boating 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. We have special New Years hours--see below for details. Take advantage of free boat launches every Tuesday during Winter Break!
  • Lake Closed 12/25: Please note that the lake will be closed on Christmas Day so our staff can celebrate the holidays with their loved ones. Happy Holidays y'all!
  • New Year, New Moon Fishing: Kick off 2022 the right way! We're open for fishing and boating until 10:00 p.m. New Years Day, Saturday, January 1st. The entrance gate will close at 8:00 p.m. Full sized lanterns required after 5:00 p.m.
  • Fireside at the Lake: Lakefront firepit rentals are available on January 1st. Firepits are $72 and can accommodate up to 6 people. Your rental includes wood, fire starter, and Adirondack chairs. Limited availability and advanced reservations required. Reserve your firepit online HERE.
  • Conditions: The current water temperature is a cool 64 degrees. The sun has been rising around 6:30 a.m. each morning and setting around 4:45 p.m. For a complete weather report in Lakeside, click HERE.
  • Campground: We're looking for Volunteers Park Hosts to live and work in our campground! Exchange a minimum of 20 hours of labor per week including weekends and holidays for a campsite that includes water and electricity. Park Hosts greet and assist campers to ensure they have an enjoyable stay in our campground. If you're interested in this position, go to Helix Water District's career page. 
  • The campground is decorated for the holidays with Christmas lights, wreath, and reindeer! Spend time with family and friends doing what you love; camping, fishing, hiking, and being outdoors.
