Stocking: The lake was stocked with 1,000 pounds of catfish last week! The last catfish stocking will be the week of October 20th bringing the total stock this season to 8,500 pounds of catfish. Lake hours will change on Halloween with fall back. Stay tuned for information regarding trout season which starts next month!

What’s the Catch? Here are some ranger tips to maximize your catch during early fall at Lake Jennings.

  • When you fish matters! Focus on low light periods: early morning and especially dusk into nighttime for catfish. Bass and panfish prefer mornings and late afternoon.

  • Use electronics (fish finders) if available to locate drop-offs, ledges, submerged brush or rocks. Catfish like deeper channels and structure, especially along the tower buoy line or near submerged cover. Bass will still hug structure this time of year.

  • Catfish continue to bite on cut mackerel, shrimp, stink baits, and nightcrawlers on bottom rigs. Because of our water clarity, bass prefer natural-color soft plastics (worms, creature baits), Texas rig, drop shot, small jigs, crankbaits, and finesse stuff.

Conditions: The current water temperature is 77 degrees at the surface. The days are getting shorter with the sun rising at 6:48 a.m. and setting at 6:22 p.m. The next new moon is October 21st.
