Stocking: The lake was stocked with 1,500 pounds of Rainbow Trout last week. Last week’s stocking was the last one until next fall, but expect to catch hold over trout through May. Catfish Opener is Memorial Day weekend where 1,500 pounds of catfish from Alpine Fishery will be stocked.

What’s the Catch? With over 19,000+ pounds of trout stocked throughout the season, there are still plenty of fish in the lake.  These fish have transitioned from freshly stocked to more natural behavior. 

Expect them to be deeper during midday and cruising shallower in low light conditions, i.e. dawn and dusk. Try fishing the deeper coves like Shadow Cove and Half Moon Cove. Look for drop offs and submerged structure where they can stay out of direct sunlight.

They’ll be more selective, so try natural presentations like nightcrawlers (off the bottom or under a float) and small spoons or Rapalas for deeper fish. Powerbait in scented, natural colored varieties will still work in the shallows. As the season progresses, trout will be less aggressive and more pattern-oriented, so slower presentations tend to get more bites.

Water temps are rising but still cool enough to support trout into late spring, especially in deeper water.
