Lake Poway is closed to fishing and boating weekdays through November 25, 2010. Weekend fishing and boating available from sunrise to sunset. The lake will re-open on return of Trout Season. 4,000 pounds of Rainbow Trout will be stocked for the opening. Hot, cold, wet, back to hot then cold again has made the fish unpredictable and cautious. Catfish and Bass have been biting the most. For the cats you should try Boulder Bay, Hidden Bay and along with the Log Boom. Bass have been spotted along the shoreline near Half Moon Bay and Jump-off Point. Please remember, Bass has a 12" minimum for keepers. Please do not keep female bass, catch and release. Water temperature is at 70 degrees and the level of the Lake continues to rise. Lake Poway will be open to shoreline fishing on Thursday, November 11th. This will be a mandatory catch and release day, strictly enforced. Fishing will be free. Youth Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday February 5 from sunrise to 12pm. 2,000 pounds of Rainbow Trout will be stocked for this event. In preparation for the derby Lake Poway will be closed to fishing and boating Wednesday February 2 at 12pm until sunrise Saturday February 5.

Open Trout Derby will be held on Saturday March 12 from sunrise to 6pm. The Open Derby will be a one day event this year. 3,000 pounds of Rainbow Trout with 25% Trophies will be stocked for this event. The Trout Pass ($90 per month) is a catch and keep permit that allows you to fish the entire month during regular fishing days and keep the fish you catch within the posted fish limits. The Bass Pass ($42 per month) is a mandatory catch and release (no keepers) permit that allows you to fish the entire month during regular fishing days.
