Fishing conditions are outstanding with back to back stocks making limit style fishing the norm inside any of the cove areas. Catfish and Boat Dock coves have been the HOT spots on the lake. The last 2 weeks, the trout have moved into Boat Dock cove with many anglers trying their luck off Pier #1. Lucky anglers of the week were Cory Ealy of Menifee who caught a nice 5 lb. 4 oz. trout on a power worm. Jesus Mayo, Jr. of Escondido landed a 4.7 lb. trout on a power worm. Both these fish were caught inside of Catfish Cove. Steve Garalde of Miramar landed 7 lb. 4 oz. tail walker on a red power worm at Boat Dock cove. Top angler of the week goes to Brad Donahue, in the main photo of Chino with a pair of trout weighing in at 10.5 and 7.5 pounds on brown pee-wee worms at Catfish cove. The double digit trout have slowed downed this past week. Average sized stockers have been the tradition the past 2 weeks with fish in the 2-4 pound range. The lake has received over 16,500 lbs. of prime grade "A" Nebraska tail walkers so far this season.

For best result for fishing for the elusive trout, try using the lightest line possible in the 2-4 lb. test line with a long leader and a small light weight...this set up seems to works best for these picky fish. Best baits so for trout have been Power bait in rainbow, green and orange does very well. Green, red and orange color Power worms have been the lucky colors for big trout. The top lures are Kastmasters, Thomas Buoyant, and Rooster tail lures. Night crawlers are the trout's best friend and are good go-to bait when the bite slows down.

With the forecast of some rain showers this week, this might turn the catfish on if things get flowing in Jack's creek. This usually stirs up the winter catfish bite. Try fishing with cut mackerel, sardines or shrimp.

The lake will be planted with another 1500 lbs. of Nebraska "Tail walkers" trout on 02/15/12 all pending weather and road conditions. The week of Feb 6th -10th will be a skip week for stocking. For further information on the fishing regulations, rules and stocking schedule, call the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at 760-839-4680.

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake received and was granted an Aquaculture Permit. This permit is valid again until March 2012. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing lake permit. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect until further notice other than no fishing license required.
