It seems to be a pattern after each stock with near limits galore and excellent fishing for about 3-5 days only....after that, the fishing really tends to slow down the to single numbers being caught. This trend especially happens during a skip week in stocking the lake. Best spots for fishing have been Trout Cove, Whisker Bay and Boat Dock cove areas. Fishing from the boats in Catfish cove near the tulles has been productive for near limits of trout. The lake has received over 22,500 lbs. of prime grade "A" Nebraska tail walkers so far this season. Only 2 more stocks remain for this year's trout season.

For best result for fishing for the elusive trout, try using the lightest line possible in the 2-4 lb. test line with a long leader and a small light weight...this set up seems to works best for these picky fish. Best baits so far for trout have been Power bait in rainbow, green and especially yellow this week. Green, red and orange color Power worms have been the lucky colors for big trout. The top lures this week have been Thomas Buoyants and the mini crappie jigs in the orange color.

The bass action and spawns that usually starts around March are showing little signs of some activity...a few bass were caught this week from anglers who are scouting out the fishing grounds. Still, not many anglers are targeting the bass this week. Still a tad early for the spawn to start with water temps being this cold. Plus a turn in the weather each weekend doesn't help conditions either. Things could turn around quickly if the right conditions and the warmer weather holds up this week...could help water conditions improve over the next few weeks of April.

The lake will be planted with another 1500 lbs. of Nebraska "Tail walkers" trout on 04/04/12 all pending weather and road conditions. The weeks of 4/9-4/13 and 4/16 to 4/20 are skip weeks for stocking until the Kiwanis trout derby scheduled for April 28th and 29th. For further information on the fishing regulations, rules, stocking schedule and the Kiwanis trout derby, call the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at 760-839-4680.

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing lake permit. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect until further notice other than no fishing license required.
