Lake Conditions: Surface temp. warming to 59.6 and 53.8 @ 20 ft. Water visibility is still clearing to 3' to 5'
. ** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.
Trout: The rainbows are still in full effect as we approach summer. Weather permitting the catches have been excellent. Brad Voigt of Chula Vista reeled in a beast of a trout weighing in at 8 lbs 12 oz while trolling. Frank Fritz of Lakeside pulled in a nice 3 lb trout as well using a night crawler. Last but not least, Steve Greifzu of Lake Morena hauled in a 1 lb 6 oz trout.
Bass: Bass season is here!!! The number of sightings and catches have been rumored but not reported as much as we'd hope but it's definitely the time of year!!! Local Legend Jim Hill did report one though, a 3 lb 6 oz monster using a rapala lure.
Catfish: The cats have been taking the bait. Jonathan Bartmas of La Mesa fooled a 4 lb 1 0oz cat using mackerel in Horseshoe Cove.
Carp: Still splashing, they like corn and corn meal balls.
Blue Gill: Mr. Jim Hill knows how to catch em' all, he dined on a few last week.
Crappie: There have been several found recently. Get your favorite 'jigs' ready.
