Dixon Lake's trout season so far has been outstanding with trout being caught in the 2-4 pound range. It has been almost 3 weeks without a stock since the derby. This last stock will bring back the life to fishing for the next week or so...It seems to be a set pattern after each stock with limits galore and excellent fishing for about 3-5 days only....after that, the fishing really tends to slow down the to single numbers being caught. Best spots for fishing have been Trout Cove, Whisker Bay and Boat Dock cove areas. With a touch of warmer waters, trout may be holding in the deeper water so the Buoy Line may be a prime spot. The lake will have received a total of 27,000 lbs. of prime grade "A" Nebraska tail walkers so far this season. Only 1 more stock remains for this year's trout season. Best baits this season have been Power bait in rainbow, especially green and yellow this past week. Green, red and or white color Power worms have been the lucky colors for big trout.

The bass action and spawns are showing some signs of improving with more activity around the spawning beds...a few small male bass have been caught and released this week from anglers who are scouting out the shallow nesting spots. The spawn may have already come and gone as large schools of bass fry have been seen throughout the lake especially near the boat dock cove areas...one of those may be the next world record. There might be some late arrivals as it's still early in the season with bigger females still hanging around the nests.

The lake was planted with 3000 lbs. of Nebraska "Tail walkers" on 04/26/12 for the 15th Annual Hidden Valley Kiwanis charity trout derby. Results of the derby have not been posted because Kiwanis officials did not turn in the winning fish information to our staff. The lake's last stock will take place on 5/16/12 with 1500 pounds of tail walkers pending weather and road conditions from Nebraska. For fishing regulations, park rules and stocking schedules please call the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at 760-839-4680 or visit http://www.dixonlake.com

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing lake permit. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect until further notice other than no fishing license required
