Dixon Lake's summer season is here and gone...HOT and HUMID days and cool evening hours are still the perfect time to a soak a line for the whisker fish. Early AM is sometimes working for the morning catfish bite.
Most catfish have been coming in the 5-7 pound range on cut mackerel. The top fish of the week goes to Roy Dinner, Photo #1 of Escondido who pulled in the 2nd biggest fish of the season with a 13.50 lb. catfish on squid off Pier #2. Matt Roselardes of Escondido landed a 9.25 lb. catfish on mackerel for 2nd place this week. John Tomas of San Diego weighed in a nice 7.90 lb. cat also on mackerel. Karrie Wilson, pictured sbove of Escondido caught a decent fish weighing in at 6.55 lb. on cut mackerel. Daniel Duran of Escondido and Aleksandr Yermakov of San Diego both caught a 5.25 lb. catfish on chicken livers. All these fishing spots were unknown...for some odd reason. Shoreline fishing has been just as effective off the piers and near the Boat Dock cove areas. Best baits have been cut mackerel, squid, chicken livers and especially shrimp.
The last stock for the catfish season will be Aug 10th with 1000 pounds. The last night fishing was Friday August 31st. We will be stocking Nebraska Tail Walkers again this year for our upcoming 2012/13 trout season. 1st plant usually happens near the end of October or first part of November. Trout derby is tentatively scheduled for Veteran's Day weekend November 9th-12th 2012. It's never too early for stocking up on trout supplies for another banner year fishing for rainbow trout.
Bluegill action has been steady with some fish up to 1 pound off the piers near the weeded, covered areas of the lake. Try using Red worms or meal worm for the gills. For further fishing regulations, park rules, trout derby and future trout stocking schedules please call the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at 760-839-4680 or visit http://www.dixonlake.com
At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing lake permit. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
