In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day Bass boats are available weekdays for 35$ each.

The Trout season is winding down as the water temperatures continue to climb. Powerbait or nightcrawlers are the baits of choice for Trout.

The Bass bite showed a marked improvement over Memorial weekend. Mike Bonds of Escondido caught and released a 7.85# Bass Saturday off Senior Shoreline on a crawdad. Justin Larson of San Diego caught and released a 7.70# Bass Sunday on a nightcrawler in Oakvale Cove and on Monday Doug Hagadorn of Valley Center recorded a 7.40# Bass caught and released on crankbait off Senior Shoreline. Other notable catches included Tanner Foreman's 6.10# and Jay Norton's 5.40#. The Largemouth Bass can be found near structure and are hitting crawdads, shad raps, and dark colored plastics.

Crappie continue to be caught in modest numbers. Crappie prefer the cover of rocks or submerged trees in which to hide and are most often caught on Crappie Jigs or Live Golden Shiners.

Catfish can be found throughout the lake but particularly at the east end right now because the canal is flowing. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.
