In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day bass boats are available weekdays for 35$ each.

The trout fishing was excellent this week following the stock with many limits being reported. Big fish of the week belonged to Juan Palacioa of Valley Center with a 10.20# trout taken in Willow Cove on a combination of powerbait and a nightcrawler.Other notable catches included: Kelsey Kennedy's 7.90#, Felix Lopez's 5.80#, Bill Ling's 5.60# and Dale Martin's 5.10#. Salmon eggs, powerbait, and inflated nightcrawlers have been the best baits.

Bass can be found lurking around rocky outcroppings. The reintroduction of trout into the lake means the bass are susceptible to swimbaits that resemble small trout.

While fly fishing on Bass Point Ken Frattini of Vista hooked a 2.30# Crappie, the biggest of the year so far. Crappie prefer the cover of submerged rocks or willows, and love to hide under docks, or in other shady places. They are most often lured out by mini-jigs or live golden shiners.

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
