To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day bass boats are available weekdays for 35$ each.

The trout season is winding down but rainbows are still being caught and will probably linger into June. Powerbait and inflated nightcrawlers have been the best baits.

Mostly small bass being reported this week. Bass can be found near structure, and respond best to crawdads, shad raps, or dark colored plastics.

Small numbers of Crappie are being caught in the early morning hours before the sun comes up. Crappie are most often caught using mini-jigs or live golden shiners.

The catfish derby we hosted last year was such a success that we are holding it again this year. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday July 5th. The fifth of July also happens to be free fishing day, so permits only, no licenses are required for this event. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.
