To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Unseasonably warm weather is pushing the trout bite westward towards deeper cooler waters. As a result Oakvale Cove and points west of Senior Shoreline are outperforming Willow Cove and Senior Shoreline. The largest trout of the past week belonged to Kevin Pahl of Carlsbad and weighed 8.90#s. It was caught on an inflated nightcrawler in Boat Dock Cove.

Crappie are being caught in the early morning hours before sunrise at various locations throughout the lake. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught on mini-jigs or live golden shiners.

The bass bite remains good. The bass appear to be spawning with the first of what could be several waves already taking place. The bass favor crawdads or dark colored plastics

Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
