Dixon Lake trout fishing is off to a great start after the stock of 1,500 lbs. on March 25.

Whisker Bay has once again gained popularity, with Trout Cove and Jack Creek Cove seeing some action as well. Pier 1 remains the best location for trout.

Night crawlers remain the most consistent bait, followed by spinners and mini jigs.

The catfish bite remains steady for those who choose to fish for them. Fresh shrimp has been the most effective bait.

A large blue gill was caught in Catfish Cove on 3/24 by Zander Smith of Valley Center. Smith used a night crawler to reel in the unusually large bluegill.

Dixon Lake continues to see occasional large female bass. An impressive 13 lb. bass was caught and released by Brock Means of San Diego on 3/20. Means used a jig near the boat dock.

Bass season is rapidly approaching, but rangers have yet to see the beginning of spawning. Male bass have been most frequently caught.

Weather and road conditions permitting, Dixon Lake should receive its next stock of 1,500 lbs. of trout on 4/9/15. Please call the ranger station at (760) 839-4345 for updates.

Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of "Senior/Military Wednesdays." Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will need a daily fishing lake permit. A second rod permit can be purchased at the concession stand for a $2.00 fee. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
