To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. The lake will remain open for weekday fishing until after Labor Day when we will close on weekdays and remain open on weekends only for the duration of the fall.

Catfish are still being caught throughout the lake. Cut mackerel and chicken liver are the top baits for cats. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that is excellent for catfish.

Florida largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure or feasting on the abundant bait fish. They respond best to crawdads, shad raps, or dark colored plastics.

Bluegill and the occasional crappie are still being caught near the shoreline. Monday, Randy Eddo of Escondido weighed in a half dozen Crappie he brought in using a small gold colored rapala near Bass Point. The largest fish weighed in at just under two pounds. Crappie generally prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught on crappie jigs or live golden shiners.
