Water temperature: At surface 73.22 f., 5.57 D.O. @ 10’ 72.68 f., 4.71 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to active military on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays in October. The lake is closed for weekday fishing. We will remain open on weekends only until mid-December and the first trout plant.
The bass have been biting well with mostly small to medium sized bass being reported. Mike Bonds of Vista caught and released a 6.60# bass Sunday using crank-bait off Senior Shoreline. Largemouth bass can be found around structure. They are hitting on crawdads, crank bait, or dark colored plastics.
Crappie can still be found in small numbers in the early morning hours. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught using live golden shiners or crappie jigs. Bluegill have been plentiful and biting from shore.
Catfish continue to be caught throughout the lake. The top baits have been cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station to pick up a dough-bait recipe that is excellent for catfish.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit.
