To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The trout continue to be bunched up on the east end of the lake, which is providing excellent fishing in Willow Cove and near the warning buoys, but remains sluggish in Boat Dock Cove, Senior Shoreline, and all points west. The biggest trout of the week belonged to Johnathan Edwards of Lynchburg Va. and weighed 5.50#s it was caught on a nightcrawler in Oakvale Cove. Tuesday’s plant will be the fourth of six consecutive weekly plants. The top baits continue to be inflated nightcrawlers, powerbait,, or salmon eggs.

Largemouth bass are susceptible to large swimbaits shaped like trout this time of year due to the influx of stocked trout. Bass can be found around structure and are hitting on crawdads, crank bait, or dark colored plastics.

Catfish can be caught throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well on both catfish and carp.
