To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

The trout bite is beginning to spread out and has come to encompass the southern shore as well as Boat Dock Cove, Willow Cove and the east end of the lake. The biggest trout of the week belonged to Amado Gonzalez of San Marcos and weighed 9.75#s it was caught on a nightcrawler east of the South Shore Rock Pile. Other Notable catches included: Steve Amaral’s 8.50#, Francisco Saldana’s 8.50#, and Russ Almagro’s 6.50# Wednesday’s double plant will be the fifth of six consecutive weekly plants. The top baits continue to be inflated nightcrawlers, powerbait, and salmon eggs.

Largemouth Bass can be found around structure and are hitting on crawdads, crank bait, or dark colored plastics.

Catfish can be caught throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver.

There have been multiple sightings of Bald Eagles this week, mostly near the west end of the lake. Birding enthusiasts, or just folks interested in seeing this majestic bird, are encouraged to participate in the birdwalk scheduled for Sunday Jan.24th which meets at 8:30 a.m. at the Oakvale trailhead.
