Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday April 6th.
Next Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday April 20th.
Water temperature: At surface 60.26 f., 6.53 D.O. @ 15’ 61.70 f., 5.94 D.O.
Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motor boats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The trout bite has been strong as a result of Wednesday’s plant combined with some cooler weather. If rainfall over the weekend is heavy enough it could slow things down. The largest trout of the past week belonged to Aleksander Terzic and weighed 9.25#s it was caught on green powerbait in Oakvale Cove. The top baits have been powerbait and inflated nightcrawlers. The final trout plant of the season is scheduled for the 20th of this month so plan on coming out sometime in the next three weeks if you would like to catch more Wohlford trout this season.
Small to medium sized bass can be found around structure and respond well to crawdads, swimbaits, and dark colored plastics.
Crappie are being caught in small numbers. Crappie prefer the cover of shade or overcast conditions and are most often caught on mini-jigs or live golden shiners. They bite best in the pre-dawn hours.
The catfish bite remains strong throughout the lake. Lake Wohlford catfish bite best on cut mackerel or chicken liver.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
