Greetings from Lake Cuyamaca: No May Gray up here, lots of Sunshine !! STOCKING!! Mt. Lassen will be stocking 1,200 lbs of there finest rainbow trout this week. The bite for all species continued to improve over the week. Crappie are as plentiful as always. Pump House Cove and Lone Pine providing action for bait anglers on the shore. Trolling has been fair. The Bass are moving up into the shallows for the spawn!! The East Lake is ready with quality trout taking flies. It is open to all anglers. This will not last long!! must have a fishing permit.
Trout Bait: 16-24 inch leader off the bottom inflated night crawler smeared with scent, Power Bait. (Pautzkes Krill gel or liquid Krill scent).
Best Trout Lures: Fire Tiger Rapala, Thomas Buoyant, Yellow Roster Tail. Use scent (Krill gel works best)
Best Trout Spots: Pumphouse Cove, Fox Hole, Lone Pine, Chambers Park .
Notable: Roy and Cathy Porter, Ocean Beach, (limits) largest 2lbs, Power Bait and scent, Lone Pine. ( reports of 1 hour limits)
Fly Fishing: East Lake action is very good fishing Olive Matukas, Wooly Buggers, and some dry flies. Work the small open water and the trench. As the water continues to be pumped the area to fish is limited, they are healthy and full of fight.. Its time!!!! The evening bite is best.
Nature Walk: The guided walk will be rescheduled .The trail is open for daily use. 3 1/2 miles around the lake.
Free Fishing Class Saturday at 10:AM: Ranger Willard will teach tried and true trout tactics, using Baits, Tube Jigs, and Lures along with Mini Jigs for Crappie, plus Night Crawlers for Bullheads.
Prognosis:!! With the stocking of trout from Mt Lassen combined with one from Mojave D.F.G. last week the numbers of trout are in your favor adding warming weather conditions has all the fish on the bite. The pump is on so Pump House Cove will continue to produce numbers and quality fish. The East Lake is producing quality trout on flies! Wade out, find an open pocket work it slow. * Remember the channel its deep* (above your waders). Bass are in the shallows. Wild flowers are starting to bloom adding to the colors of spring!!
