Dixon Lake's trout season is in full swing with steady action in the cove areas. Large trout from the last stock are still being taken off the Piers and especially in Trout Cove. Jack Jones of Vista landed the largest trout since the Derby with a 7 lb. 12 oz. bow that was taken on a night crawler. Grant Cummings of Mira Mesa weighed in a nice 6-pound trout on a shad color Rapala lure. Guthrie Cliff of Vista, fishing off Pier #4 while fishing with a Mepps spinner bait, landed a 5 lb. 5 oz. Rainbow trout. It isn't limit style fishing since the derby, but the quality of trout being kicked out is in the 5 to 7-pound range with the "average sized" trout in the 3 to 4-pound range.

Dixon Lake will stock again on November 25, with 1500 pounds of trout from Chaulk Mound Trout Ranch. The hatchery is located in Bridgeport, Nebraska, home of the "Tail walkers." Best choices of baits have been Rainbow color Power bait, small Crappie jigs, Kastmaster and Thomas Buoyant lures.

The bass action has slowed down to a crawl this past week. Early morning or later afternoon bites have been the norm. Bass anglers are having success with plastics from the Boat Dock Cove and Whisker Bay. The catfish bite has been fair this week. Maybe with the upcoming rains, it might get the whiskers active again. Several anglers are reporting fair to good action in the cove areas with cut mackerel. Pier #2 remains closed due to construction until further notice.
