Hello from Lake Jennings! The trout bite is slowly winding down. The
only good spot from shore has been the fishing float. Fishing deep by boat in
the middle of Half Moon and south of Eagle Point. Crawlers are
outperforming Power Bait. The bass are definitely post spawn. 20 ft. clear
water dictates light lines. Dropshotting the points in 25 to 35 ft. of water or
frogs dragged off the bank early and late. Speaking of catfish: Night fishing starts Memorial Day
weekend. Starting May 22, you can fish until midnight on Friday and Saturday. We will also be
open on Memorial Day.
Best Trout Spots: Middle of the lake.
Best Trout Lures/Bait: Inflated crawlers on a 2 ft. leader dipped in scent.
Best Catfish Spots: Bird trees and floating boathouse.
Best Catfish Bait: Night crawlers and mackerel. Use scent liberally.
Best Bass Spots: Every 15 ft. along the shore and off the points. Think post-spawn.
Best Bass Lures/Bait: Drop-shooting 10" black Power Worms and 4" margarita mutilator worms.
Notables: No fish reported over 3 lbs. or limits under 1 hour.
Prognosis: Start thinking catfish and red ears. Both are showing up on the bank. Trout will be found
out at the buoy line and in the deeper channels. Start looking for bank bass early and late.
Water Temperature: 65 to 67 degrees on surface.
Current Schedule: We'll be open this Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 5:45 a.m. ??? 8:15 p.m.
Lake Jennings Fishing University will hold a fishing class this Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The classes concentrate on what is working best. This week's class will talk about bait fishing for trout. Most importantly, the classes are FREE! Ranger Hugh will be the professor.
