The first of three consecutive weekly plants arrived this week and the second plant is just days away. There should be a noticeable surge in the catfish bite for the rest of July and into early August. Lake Wohlford cats prefer chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel.
Black Crappie are being caught under the crappie float or by boaters trolling for them. Crappie bite mini-jigs and live golden shiners. They prefer cover and bite best in the early mornings or late afternoons.
Largemouth Bass can be found lurking around structure. Jeff Warren of Vista caught and released a 7.90# bass on a crank-bait in Oakvale Cove Sunday. Bass can be caught on crankbaits, dark colored plastics, or crawdads.
