Catfish can be found throughout the lake, but are particularly active near the west buoys. Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the Ranger Station for a dough-bait recipe that works well for either catfish or carp.
Crappie are being caught in the early morning hours underneath the Leriget Crappie Float or in the vicinity of Bass Point. Crappie respond best to mini-jigs or live golden shiners and bite best in the early mornings or late afternoons.
Small to medium sized bass are being caught primarily around structure. The bass are hitting frog poppers, rats, and dark colored plastics.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. Contest winners must legally catch their fish at Lake Wohlford and have it weighed on our scale. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
