Catfish Season: Another 1,000 pounds of catfish went into the lake last week. The next stocking of 1,000 pounds will be the week of July 8th. Catfish season runs through October.
What’s the Catch? Panfish ruled the lake again this weekend. Many caught from shore near structure or weed beds, but boats in Half Moon Cove also came back with their fair share. They’re biting on worms…meal, wax, and ‘crawlers, take your pick! The catfish hunker down during the heat of the day, but once the sun starts to set, the become more active. Limits were pulled from Siesta Cove and the shoreline adjacent to the t-dock. With the water level so low, the best way to secure a bite is with a boat though. Mackerel and chicken livers were tried and true.
Conditions: The current water temperature at the surface is around 73 degrees. The lake is well oxygenated. The shorelines are muddy and more than a few shoes have been lost! Be cautious when fishing from the shoreline. The sun is rising at 5:43 a.m. and setting at 8:00
p.m.
Please be aware of exposed and submerged structure while boating and muddy shoreline around the lake. The lake elevation is 677’. The lake draw is complete. It will remain at the current elevation until construction is complete. Check the scope of the project and progress by visiting East County Advanced Water Purification | Helix Water District, CA (hwd.com).
