Greetings from Lake Cuyamaca: The weather has the trout confused, along with the anglers. Is this the end of May??? Snow on the ground???? The trout fishing has been a slow but steady bite, with bait producing better than hardware.?? !!! ALPERS TROUT!!! are back. They are known for there "Bad Attitude"?? and "Line Busting"?? along with great taste. Some beautiful trophy trout were included .?? Come on up and get in on the action!! (??5) five?? "Tagged?? Alpers Trout"?? were added to the Inventory. Catching a tagged trout will reward the angler with Motor Boat Rental and 4 fishing permits for(1) one day!!! Trolling is picking up with Rooster Tails and Panther Martins providing the best results. ?? The Crappie are making a strong showing around the docks and shorelines. Bullhead catfish are very aggressive??in seeking out?? your night crawler on the bottom.??
!!! We now have???? 3 NEW SLEEPING CABINS?? for rent!!! ??**call for information.**
Trout Bait: 18-24 inch leader off the bottom inflated night crawler smeared with scent, Power Bait,?? salmon eggs.???? (Pautzkes Krill gel or liquid Krill scent)
Best Trout Lures: Gold Panther Martins and Rooster Tails. Use scent!?? (Krill gel works best)??
Best Trout Spots: Lone Pine, Chambers Park, Tee Dock.
Notable: Clarence Bunch, La Mesa, 4lbs Rainbow, Power bait, Pumphouse Cove. Krise Larsen, Julian, 2lbs Alpers Trout (tagged), Power bait/ Night crawler combo.( limits of smaller trout and crappie )??
Fly Fishing:Try a?? Black Wooly Bugger, Olive Matuka, Egg Sucking Leach, slow retrieve.??Bluegill and Crappie taking emergers in shallow water of the south end.
Nature Walk: The guided walk will be conducted by Clint Powell May 6, 2007.The trail is open for daily use. 3 1/2 miles around the lake.
Free Fishing Class Saturday at 10:AM:Ranger Willard?? will teach??tried and true trout techniques using?? bait, tube jigs and lures for trout.??
Prognosis:!! The weather warming this week will improve the bite. It should bust wide open. The catching of trout, crappie and bullheads will provide plenty of action for anglers of all ages. With the?? (huge inventory) of trout its time to come up and catch your limit. Try trolling with gold Panther Martins, Rapala's,?? and Rooster Tails.?? Water?? surface temp 40-44deg.
