Stocking: Another 1,500 pounds of Rainbow Trout from Idaho were stocked this week. DFW planted 500 pounds of trout last week. We’ll stock biweekly until mid-April. So far, 6,000 pounds of trout have been stocked this season.

What’s the Catch? It’s prime time for bass fishing right now! Some sizeable bass have been pulled in recent weeks by boat and shore. They are going after everything from shiners to plastics. Any cove with a steep drop, i.e. Sentry and Half Moon are good places to fish for bass. Bass are most active during the warmest part of the day, because the bait fish are out and about. New Moon Fishing seemed to wake up the catfish bite. We’ve heard reports of more cats being pulled by shore and the t-dock the last couple of weeks. As usual, mackerel and chicken liver are tried and true. The DFW stock didn’t yield a ton of trout limits last weekend, but the rangers recommend fishing Hermit Cove in between stocking weeks, especially by the buoy line and near Cactus Patch. Look for areas of submerged structure. Trout will be attracted to Powerbait, worms, and mini jigs. Try different baits until you find one that works.

Conditions: The current water temperature is 67 degrees. The district is filling the lake 25-30 MGD. The fill should be complete by the end of the month. The sun is rising at 6:36 a.m. and setting at 4:41 p.m. The new moon is on Monday, December 30th.
