Dixon Lake trout season will start in about a month with opening day Nov 3rd. Start dusting off those trout poles and put on some fresh 4 lb line. Try early AM hours or late afternoon for the catfish bite. The best action for the catfish is at the Buoy line, with the next best spots being Whisker Bay and Catfish Cove near pier #4.

The bass have moved off the spawning beds and gone into deeper waters. Some bigger bass have seen cruising in the 15-20 ft of water. Boat Dock Cove and Trout Cove has been full of action with lots of bass busting the surface chasing schools of shad in the early AM hours. A local angler reported catching 6-8 bass with the biggest being a 4 lb bass on a jig.

Smaller sized Bluegills are being caught on the piers especially along the weed covered areas of the shoreline and other piers. Best baits are smaller night crawlers or mealworms.

Best baits for the catfish have been cut mackerel or sardines, shrimp and chicken liver. The last stock of the season was Aug.18th with 1000 lbs of catfish. Dixon Lake will be stocking trout from Nebraska again this year with opening day starting Nov 3rd with 1500 pounds of "Tail walkers" pending weather conditions.

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California Fishing License from the Dept. of Fish &Game. Dixon Lake received and was granted an Aquaculture Permit last week. This permit is valid till December 31, 2010 and can be renewed on a yearly basis for our agency. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing Lake Permit.
