Fish Report
Dixon Lake trout fishing remains fair to good to this week. Trout Cove has been the best spot so far this season. Trout fishing around Whisker Bay and the Buoy line has seen some decent action the past few weeks. Most trout are in the 2-4 pound range. Best choices on baits are night crawlers, power worms, Yellow, Green, or Rainbow color Power Baits. The best lure choices have been Kastmasters, Rooster Tails, and Thomas Buoyants. Using 2 or 4 lb test line has been the key for successful limits.
The 14th annual Hidden Valley Kiwanis Charity Derby will be held April 30th and May 1st. Everyone fishing on those two days will be required to enter the derby. Many prizes will be awarded during the derby, and an opportunity drawing will also be held. 3000 lbs of trout will be stocked before the derby. Entry into the derby will cost $14 for adults and $10.00 for youth 8-15 and seniors over 60. The entry fee will include your fishing permit for the day.
Dixon Lake's last trout stock from Nebraska will be on May 4th with 1500 lbs of "Tail Walkers." The week of May 2-6 will be a skip week.
Bass fishing has been good with many bass in the 3 to 5 pound range being caught and released. No lunker bass over 10 pounds were reported this week.
At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California Fishing License from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake received and was granted an Aquaculture Permit. This permit will valid again for 2011. All anglers 8 years and older will still need a daily fishing Lake Permit. ALL other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect until further notice other than no fishing license required.
