Summer fishing is still doing well at Lake Morena. A little bit of everything. It's a perfect time to enjoy our facilities. Fishing remains consistent with fair action reported from our anglers.
Trout:
Anglers are still finding rainbow trout in 20 feet or less of water using night crawlers, power bait, Shad raps, spinners and rapalas near the dam and Pumphouse cove. John Brennan, Jucumba, pulled his 1 lb 12 oz rainbow using spinners. Rudy Tessman, Campo, fooled his 1 pounder on Power Bait in Horseshoe cove. Ted and Chuck Hargis from Huntington Beach were here all week and did well using crankbait and night crawlers taking a 2 lb trout. You'll see their name more down the page. Best bet is to rent one of our boats and work the lake.
Carp:
They're still splashing. They like corn and corn meal balls.
Bass:
Bass anglers have reported smaller bass suspended around 20feet in Horseshoe cove. Ted and Chuck were busy with the bass too. Through the week they caught and released five 1 to 2 pound largemouths' in the narrower part of the lake. Try your favorite lure or shad raps and trick'em. Catch and release, please.
Bluegill:
Red worms and meal worms are still fooling the bluegill along the shoreline, coves and off the rock piles. John Brennan had two great days limiting the Blue Gills. Meal worms were working for him in the morning along Gizzer cove.
Crappie:
A few are moving around rock piles using green or yellow jigs or again shad raps off the shore rocks and Pumphouse cove.
Catfish
Horseshoe cove has been a popular spot using power bait and night crawlers. Also the dam area near pumphouse cove has been a good spot. Ted and Chuck used that area to limit on 1 to 2 pound catfish using night crawlers.
Boat Launch Conditions:
Boat launching is open for private boats. The speed limit is 10 mph. Before launch all boats are subject to quagga inspection. If you do not pass inspection you will not be able to launch. The launch fees are $6, motorboats, kayaks, canoes, and sailboards must pay fee.
