Lake Conditions - Surface temperature is 56.4 and at 20ft 55.8. Water visibility is clearing to more than 3 feet.
** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.
Trout - Mt. Lassen trophy trout are here. Jim Hill from Campo was using his gold kastmaster to limit out the largest was 3lbs 2oz. Jim Rice was cruising his favorite spot paradise cove with 2 lb. test to fool his limit. Small treble-hooks, Kastmasters, light line, speckled green Powerbait, and plain ol' night crawlers are your best bet.
Carp - They have not been biting much lately.
Bass - Bass anglers have reported smaller bass roaming around the coves. 3 and 5 pounders reported this week. Brown plastics were fooling them. Try using your favorite lure or throw out a night crawler. Horseshoe and Paradise cove has been popular spots. Catch and release, please.
Blue Gill - Red worms and meal worms are still fooling the blue gill along the shoreline, coves, and off the rock piles. A few bluegills were caught off the rocks near Gizzer cove.
Crappie - They have been quite allusive. We're looking forward to a great spring bite.
Catfish - The whiskers have slow in recent weeks. Still there have been a few small ones showing up in Horseshoe cove.
Boat Launch Conditions: Boat launching is open for private boats. The speed limit is 10mph. Before launch all boats are subject to quagga inspection. If you do not pass inspection you will not be able to launch so please insure that all boats are clean and dry before entering the park. Launch fees for private boats are $6. The private boat category include: motorboats, kayaks, canoes, and sailboards.
