Opening day of trout season is only one week away! The initial plant of 4,500 lbs of Nebraska "Tailwalkers" is slated for December 10th when the lake will re-open for weekday fishing. With two additional plants scheduled in December, for a total of 7,500 lbs in just three weeks, fishing is poised to get off to a roaring start.

In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.

Catfish are still being caught throughout the lake. Greg Springer of Oceanside out fishing for Bass, instead landed a 20# Blue Catfish near the South Shore Rock Pile on a jig. After weighing it in at the dock Mr. Springer released the big cat. Lake Wohlford catfish prefer chicken liver or cut mackerel.

Bass are to be found in the early morning and late afternoons lingering near submerged rock-piles in anticipation of the coming trout plants. Dark colored plastics do particularly well.

A small number of crappie are being caught mostly early in the day. Crappie respond well to finger jigs or live golden shiners and prefer shady places in which to hide.
