Dixon Lake fishing conditions have slowed to a crawl this week. It has been close to 3 weeks without a stock until April 26th. Otherwise, trout season so far has been outstanding with trout being caught in the 2-4 pound range. It seems to be a set pattern after each stock with near limits galore and excellent fishing for about 3-5 days only....after that, the fishing really tends to slow down the to single numbers being caught. This trend especially happens during a skip week in stocking the lake. Best spots for fishing have been Trout Cove, Whisker Bay and Boat Dock cove areas. The lake has received over 22,500 lbs. of prime grade "A" Nebraska tail walkers so far this season. Only 2 more stocks remain for this year's trout season. Best baits this season for trout have been Power bait in rainbow, especially green and yellow this week. Green, red and or white color Power worms have been the lucky colors for big trout.
The bass action and spawns are showing some signs of activity...a few small male bass were caught and released this week from anglers who are scouting out the shallow nesting spots. Plus the recent storm does not help conditions either. Things could turn around quickly if the right conditions and the weather hold up this week for water conditions to improve. Now there are a chances of showers and a low front system moving in this week won't help conditions either.
The lake will be planted with 3000 lbs. of Nebraska "Tail walkers" on 04/26/12 for the 15th Annual Hidden Valley Kiwanis charity trout derby. The derby will be April 28th and 29th. Each angler fishing will have to enter the derby by purchasing a lake permit. Permit prices for the derby days will be $14 for Adults (16 yrs. & older) Seniors over 60 and Youths ages 8-15 yrs. will be $10. There will be prizes award each day for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and an overall grand prize for the biggest trout. Also, over $2000 dollars' worth of prizes will be awarded for chances at an Opportunity Drawing including a 7 night trip to Mexico.
