Lake Conditions:
Water Temperature: Surface temp. warming to 59.6 and 53.8 @ 20 ft. Warmer water in the coves and shallow end of lake.
Water Clarity: Water visibility is still clearing to 3' to 5'
. ** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.
Trout: While most anglers are rigged for bass and crappie they still manage to snag a few rainbows. For instance Jonathon Bartmas from La Mesa fooled a 4lb-er with mackerel trolling in his words "All Over".
Bass: Bass season is here! Michael Ballard has been catch-and-releasing loads of bass this week trolling the lake with banjo minnows. Ruben Sandoval was using night crawlers to bring in and let go 5 large mouths'. Greg Key played a total of 14lbs of bass with the largest being 4 lb 12 oz in Cabin cove with his rattle traps.
Catfish: Jonathon "all over" Bartmas claimed 4 cats with mackerel. Alberto Duran was using nightcrawlers in cabin cove to pull in several cats. Ralph Kothbill from Lakeside working Horseshoe cove caught 2 cats.
Carp: They seem to be everywhere. Ruben Sandoval and Alberto Duran of Campo clobbered several in cabin cove with night crawlers.
Blue Gill: John Beverlin from Campo was fishing for crappie when blue gill found their way to his hook. He had a combined limit of 25 Blue Gill and Crappie.
Crappie: This delectable fish is being caught in the warmer waters of the lake such as Horseshoe cove and Boat dock cove. A variety of lead head jigs from feathered to bi-colored have been successful.
