Park Hours: 6:00 A.M. - 7:30 P.M. Open seven days a week.
Dock Closes: 7:00 P.M.
Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday May 16th.
Next Plant: Catfish in June/July.
Water Temperature: At surface 65.70 f., 9.96 D.O. @ 15' 63.08 f., 4.06 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The Trout fishing has been poor and we have yet to see any results from Wednesday's plant. Powerbait (often times dipped in garlic sauce), salmon eggs, and inflated nightcrawlers have been the preferred baits. A fair amount of small to medium sized Bass are being caught still lingering in the shallows and feasting on the abundant shad. The early mornings and evenings are the best times to catch them. Dark colored plastics are typically what the Bass are being caught on.
There are plenty of Catfish to be had throughout the lake. The Catfish respond well to chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp
. The Crappie fishing has been good. The Crappie prefer the cover of submerged trees and rocks and like to hide in shady places. Live golden shiners and finger jigs are what they mostly bite on.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in 4 categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
