Park Hours: 6:00 A.M. - 7:30 P.M. Open seven days a week.
Dock Closes: 7:00 P.M.
Last Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Thursday April 26th.
Next Plant: 1,500 lbs of Rainbow Trout Wednesday May 16th.
Water Temperature: At surface 65.70 f., 9.96 D.O. @ 15' 63.08 f., 4.06 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The Trout fishing has been sluggish, at times, but should improve with this week's plant. Chilo Naranjo of Escondido had the largest Trout of the past week at 5.85#s caught on a nightcrawler in Oakvale Cove. The Trout have moved westward toward the dam and deeper water. Oakvale Cove is now the best spot to fish for rainbows. Stephan Casteel of Carlsbad limited out in Oakvale Cove last Saturday using nightcrawlers to put together a 15.50# stringer of five. Powerbait (often times dipped in garlic sauce), salmon eggs, and inflated nightcrawlers have been the preferred baits.
Quite a few medium sized Bass being reported. Richard Fridell caught and released a 7.90# Bass using a swimbait near Crappie Rock. In addition, Rod Blunt caught and released a 6.30# Bass on a plastic worm on Senior Shoreline. Finally, Sean Byron caught and released a 5.70# Bass near the west Buoys on a watermelon colored Senko. Dark colored plastics are typically what the Bass are being caught on.
There are plenty of catfish to be had throughout the lake. The catfish respond well to chicken liver or cut mackerel. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both catfish and carp.
The Crappie fishing has fluctuated between fair and outstanding. David Lopez of Escondido nearly limited out last Saturday in Boat Dock Cove catching twenty plus fish by early afternoon the largest weighing 2.25#s. Mr. Lopez was using live golden shiners.
