Dixon Lake's trout season was outstanding with huge amounts of trout being caught in the 2-4 pound range. This last stock did bring back the life to fishing for the next week or so...It seems to be the final days of any chance of catching trout these days. The break in the cooler weather may hold the fish over for a few more days. Inflated night crawlers with a power worm combo seem to be the trick lately. Best spots for fishing have been Trout Cove, Whisker Bay and Boat Dock cove areas. As the season is near its end, trout may be holding in the deeper water so the Buoy Line may be a prime spot. The lake received a total of 27,000 lbs. of prime grade "A" Nebraska tail walkers so far for the season. Best baits this season have been Power bait in rainbow, especially green and yellow this past week. Garlic scented power bait does well here too.

The bass action and spawns are showing some ending signs with light activity around the spawning beds...a few small male bass have been caught and released this week from anglers who are scouting out the shallow nesting spots. The spawn may have already come and gone as large schools of bass fry have been seen throughout the lake especially near the boat dock cove areas...one of those bass fry may be the next world record. There might be some late arrivals to the spawn as it's still the season with bigger females showing up around the nests.

The lake's last stock was on 5/16/12 with 1500 pounds of tail walkers from Nebraska. We will be stocking catfish starting in July for our catfish season. Night fishing will start the first week in July. These dates are tentative and could change without notice. For further fishing regulations, park rules and stocking schedules please call the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at 760-839-4680 or visit http://www.dixonlake.com

At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will still need a daily fishing lake permit. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect until further notice other than no fishing license required.
