The opening week and a half of trout fishing continues to be full of Tailwalking action! It's hard to keep up with the great stringer and trophy pictures. Several anglers have already landed that monster Tailwalker that many of us dream about: Colton Long, pictured above (9 pounds on a Rooster Tail at Jump Off Point), Kirk Pastilich, Photo #1 (8 Pounds on Powerbait/Nightcrawler Combo at Jump Off Point) and Phillip Borboa (7 Pounds on a Mini-jig on the North Shore). There were also many catfish caught along with the trout as Erik and Kirk Aguon found out when they caught two limits of trout and a catfish! It's a great time to be fishing at the Lake and all species are cooperating.
The trout are biting from shore in places like the North Shore, Half Moon Bay, and the East Shore next to the spillway. And the last two days (11/29 and 11/30) Jump-Off Point has produced two trophies! The boats are finding success on the Log Boom and in Boulder bay. Hidden Bay was really productive last year and it should pick up during the next few stocks. The catfish are still biting everywhere. From the North Shore to the center of the Lake and to the East end of the Log Boom to the Fishing Pier. You name the place and catfish have been caught there recently. Some trout fishermen have caught their limit of catfish (along with some trout) on Powerbait recently. If you are targeting catfish stick with mackerel and chicken liver.
The bass are deep and drop-shotting large and small plastics are working well in places like the first two barrels on the Log Boom and the Rock Pile off of Jump-Off Point. Now that the trout are in, the swimbait bite is beginning to pick up and should continue through the spring.
Just as a reminder, our next stock will be 1,500 pounds of Tailwalkers on Wednesday, December 5. I have included a detailed list of baits that work well at our lake and how to rig up the powerbait/nightcrawler rig in the most recent fish report that can be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. The concession stand will also remain closed as the new owner is making repairs and many interior changes. It will be well worth the wait and will hopefully be up and running by late December. But it the meantime, bring your own bait and snacks.
