Dixon Lake trout season opening day will October 29 with 1500 pounds of some sort of Rainbow trout stocked that day....until then there is a definite slower time of year for fishing any species of fish.
The summer time is over and the fall season is finally here. Start gearing up for this year's trout as Dixon Lake will hopefully be getting the bid/contract for Nebraska Tail Walkers again for the 2014/15 trout season. First stock is slated for Oct 29, 2014 and as always will and can change if road and weather condition permits. Best baits over the years have been the power bait, power worms and especially Rooster Tail, Kastmaster and Thomas Buoyant lures that work well right after the stock. The concession will be fully stocked with plenty of those supplies including night crawlers
The 36th Annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby will take place Nov. 8-11. Hours are from 6 AM to 4:45 PM each of those days. Prizes will be awarded with a grand prize for overall largest trout and division prizes for Senior, Adult and Youth for largest trout in each of those categories. Additional prizes will be for daily largest trout in 1st and 2nd place each day. A prize will go out to the smallest trout caught at the derby and the first 15 tagged trout turned in will also receive a prize. All anglers must purchase a daily lake fishing permit and must be presented when weighing in a trout at the weigh station. Each angler needs a separate stringer and all trout caught must be kept. 5 fish per angler is allowed per day. 4500 pounds of Rainbow trout will be stocked before the derby.
For park rules, future trout stocking schedule and trout derby rules please call the Dixon Lake Ranger station at 760-839-4680 or visit http://www.dixonlake.com
At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will need a daily fishing lake permit. A second rod permit can be purchased at the concession stand for a $2.00 fee. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
