Fishing at Dixon Lake remains slow as it awaits Trout Season.

Dixon Lake regrets to inform the public that trout season opening day has been postponed, due to higher than average water temperatures. In order for stocked trout to thrive, the water temperature must be at 70 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. As of Monday, October 27th, the water temperature remains at 72 degrees. The stock is guaranteed during the week of 11/3. The stock will be 7,500 lbs., due to the postponement of the first scheduled stocking date.

The 36th Annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby will remain as scheduled from November 8th to 11th.

To make this four-day event competitive for the novice, as well as the skilled angler, there are a variety of ways to win. Prizes will be awarded for the following five categories: the largest trout of the derby, the largest in each age category (senior, adult, and youth), the first and second largest trout of each day, the smallest trout of the derby, and for the first 15 trout brought in that have a plastic clip on their dorsal fin.

To enter, each fisherman must purchase a daily permit normally required to fish the lake ($7.00 adults, $5.00 for kids under 16 and seniors over 60). There is no additional charge to enter the derby, but the $5 vehicle entry fee into the park will be charged each day of the derby. Fish must be weighed in during derby hours, 6:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., on the day they are caught. Since contestants can win only one prize, chances of winning are good.

This year, for the first time, the Hidden Valley Kiwanis will be sponsoring a "Kiddy Pond" stocked with "kid-sized" trout.?? The Kiddy Pond will be available both Saturday and Sunday, November 8th and 9th from 6:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and will be set up next to the disabled-accessible pier near the main Lake Dixon picnic area. The trout caught from the Kiddy Pond won't be eligible for Derby prizes, but will be a great place for young anglers to learn fishing techniques.?? Volunteers will be available to help kids access the pond.??

In previous years, the best bait for trout at Dixon Lake have included night crawlers, Power Bait and Power Worms. As far as lures, Rooster Tail, Kastmaster, and Thomas Buoyant have proven reliable.
