While fishing remains slow at Dixon Lake, anglers continue to catch limited amounts of catfish, bass and bluegill.
A 9lb catfish was caught on 11/4 by Francisco Lagunas of Escondido, using shrimp. The catfish have been showing themselves in recent days, clearly putting on some weight for winter.
Dixon Lake Rangers are pleased to announce that trout season will officially begin this Wednesday, November 12, with the first stock of Nebraska Tailwalkers from Chaulk Mound Trout Ranch.?? Cooler weather has dropped the lake temperature into the safe range for the first scheduled stock.
Because the fish will be delivered from Nebraska, there is no official time of day that the fish will be stocked. The size of the stock is yet to be determined.
The 36th??Annual Trout Derby has been scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 5-7th. Any additional details of the new derby dates will be updated as the dates reach closer.
To make this four-day event competitive for the novice, as well as the skilled angler, there are a variety of ways to win. Prizes will be awarded for the following five categories: the largest trout of the derby, the largest in each age category (senior, adult, and youth), the first and second largest trout of each day, the smallest trout of the derby, and for the first 15 trout brought in that have a plastic clip on their dorsal fin.
??????????To enter, each fisherman must purchase a daily permit normally required to fish the lake ($7.00 adults, $5.00 for kids under 16 and seniors over 60). There is no additional charge to enter the derby, but the $5 vehicle entry fee into the park will be charged each day of the derby. Fish must be weighed in during derby hours, 6:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., on the day they are caught. Since contestants can win only one prize, chances of winning are good.
?? In previous years, the best bait for trout at Dixon Lake have included night crawlers, Power Bait and Power Worms. As far as lures, Rooster Tail, Kastmaster, and Thomas Buoyant have proven reliable.
Dixon Lake would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during difficult times of postponement of trout season.
