Trout season at Dixon Lake has temporarily slowed in recent days as the fish adjust to a rising water temperature, although occasional limits are still being reported.

As usual, Pier 1 and Jack Creek Cove have been the most consistent spots to catch trout, while Trout Cove has lost popularity throughout the weekend. Nightcrawlers remain the most popular bait, with some anglers having better luck gently inflating medium sized worms. Rainbow Garlic-Scented PowerBait continues as the most popular PowerBait dough. White Mouse-Tail PowerWorms also seem to be gaining popularity amongst the trout.

Earlier this week, Glen Murofughi of Spring Valley brought in a 9 lb. 2 oz. trout near the buoy line using a mini-silver jig and Rainbow PowerBait. Mile Mielke of Oceanside brought in a 7.25 lb. trout using a green mini-jig and a pumpkin seed on Pier 1 the previous day.

Occasional catfish continue to make appearances, seemingly getting bigger as each week passes. Presumably, they are most likely gaining weight for the winter months ahead.

Dixon Lake Rangers are pleased to announce The 36th??Annual Trout Derby has been re-scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, December 5-7th. Dixon Lake Rangers advise all fishermen to revise all park rules and regulations before entering Dixon Lake on the days of the derby.

To make this three-day event competitive for the novice, as well as the skilled angler, there are a variety of ways to win. Prizes will be awarded for the following five categories: the largest trout of the derby, the largest in each age category (senior, adult, and youth), the first and second largest trout of each day, the smallest trout of the derby, and for the first 15 trout brought in that have a plastic clip on their dorsal fin.

??????????To enter, each fisherman must purchase a daily permit normally required to fish the lake ($7.00 adults, $5.00 for kids under 16 and seniors over 60). There is no additional charge to enter the derby, but the $5 vehicle entry fee into the park will be charged each day of the derby. Fish must be weighed in during derby hours, 6:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., on the day they are caught. Since contestants can win only one prize, chances of winning are good.

Dixon Lake would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding during difficult times of postponement of trout season. We expect large crowds for our 36th Annual Trout Derby, and look forward to a great turnout.
