Water level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
To protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesday and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Trout fishing remains solid in Oakvale Cove and strertches of Senior Shoreline and Boat Dock Cove. The biggest trout of the week belonged to L. C. Chou of Escondido and weighed in at an impressive 12.90#s. The huge rainbow was caught on powerbait along Senior Shoreline. Other notable catches belonged to John Lee who landed a 7.15# trout using a nightcrawler near the South Shore Rock Pile and Erick Noriega who caught a 5.45# rainbow in the same area using green powerbait. Next week is a skip week we will plant fish again the following Wednesday. Green powerbait and inflated nightcrawlers have been the most productive baits.
The first double digit bass to make it to the scales for a quite a stretch was caught and released Saturday by Aaron Torres of Warner Springs. Mr. Torres was fishing for trout at the time by Twin Peaks with powerbait on the end of his 6 lb. test line. His largemouth weighed in at 10.40#s. Bass can be found near structure and respond best to crawdads, swimbaits, and dark colored plastics.
Each month Whopper Contest winners in four categories are awarded a free fishing and boating permit. For information on the contest or fishing conditions, please contact the Ranger Station at (760) 839-4346.
