Trout fishing at Dixon Lake has picked up speed after the Thursday, January 29th stock of 1,500 lbs. Dixon Lake would like to thank the public for their patience while waiting for the late arrival of the stock.
Whisker Bay has been the most popular spot within the past week. Youth anglers Gus Patrick and Matthew Yanik pulled out a 3 lb. and 2.5 lb. trout on 2/1 off green chartreuse PowerBait.
In addition to dozens of trout caught this week, an impressive 1 lb. 8 oz. bluegill was caught near the south side of Pier 1 on 2/1 by Manny Bird of Escondido. Bird reported using a night crawler.
Aside from Whisker Bay, Trout Cove, Jack Creek Cove and Pier 1 have seen their fair share of trout as well. Areas near the buoy line remain effective for anglers fishing from boats.
The most effective baits since the stock have been chartreuse PowerBait, Rainbow Garlic PowerBait, green jigs, and gold and silver spinners.
Occasional large catfish and small to medium bass continue to make appearances.
Dixon Lake staff encourages anglers who qualify to take advantage of "Senior/Military Wednesdays." Senior citizens 60 and older and military personnel are eligible to purchase $18 all day motor boats, and $12 all day row boats every Wednesday.
For more information on park rules, future trout stocking schedule, and other information, please call the Dixon Lake Ranger station at 760-839-4680, or visit http://www.dixonlake.com
At the present time, Dixon Lake no longer requires a California fishing license from the Dept. of Fish & Game. Dixon Lake has been granted an Aquaculture Permit. All anglers 8 yrs. and older will need a daily fishing lake permit. A second rod permit can be purchased at the concession stand for a $2.00 fee. All other park rules, fishing regulations and City of Escondido municipal codes will remain in effect.
